It’s not that I am becoming like a crazy old lady obsessing about the weather all the time. But this has me a little alarmed.
A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM THURSDAY TO 6 AM EST FRIDAY.
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD ACROSS THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE FOOTHILLS EARLY THURSDAY MORNING AND CONTINUE THROUGH MID DAY. SNOW WILL MIX WITH AND BECOME PREDOMINATELY SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING…EXCEPT OVER THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS WHERE PRECIPITATION SHOULD TRANSITION TO MOSTLY RAIN DURING THE AFTERNOON. TWO TO FOUR INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED…WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. ALONG WITH SNOW…A DAMAGING ACCUMULATION OF ICE IS EXPECTED ALONG AND JUST WEST OF THE BLUE RIDGE AND POSSIBLY THE UPPER FRENCH BROAD VALLEY.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW… SLEET… AND ICE ARE EXPECTED. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWERLINES.
It is not the cold or the snow that is freaking me out. It is the damaging ice and wind. Some say close to a half inch of ice. And it is the idea of being without power. Thank god for the wood stove. Got a good pile of logs on the porch. And I got a tank of propane incase I need to fire up the grill–the stove is really only hot enough to heat not cook. I am a little worried about my neighbor’s large pine trees. They drop large limbs over the powerlines during this kind of weather. Chances are I will be house bound. I have some work stuff with me incase, but if the power is out it will be a day of spinning by the stove.
